UTS St George Sparks registered their third win of the 2017 Samsung Premier League Opens Division with a convincing 65-48 defeat of Central Coast Heart at the Genea Netball Centre on Wednesday 28 June.

It was a dominant second half performance which setup the win for the Sparks after they were pushed hard in the opening two quarters by a competitive Central Coast outfit.

In fact it was the Heart who had the lead at halftime after recovering from a one-goal deficit at quarter-time to win the second period 13-11 and take a 26-25 lead to the big break.

But they were unable to keep that effort up in the second half as the Sparks, boosted by Suncorp Super Netball players Claire O’Brien and Kristina Brice, dominated the remaining quarters to romp home and consign the Heart to a fourth defeat of the season.

Despite winning the third quarter 18-13, there was only four goals between the sides at the final break and the Heart were still very much in the contest.

However, any hopes they had of winning it were extinguished by a fine display in the final 15 minutes, the Sparks registering a blistering 22 goals in the final period – to the Heart’s six – to secure the win and two valuable competition points.
