Samsung Premier League Launch Event

The athletes were ready, officials composed and the spectators out in force last night for the opening night and official launch of the inaugural Samsung Premier League Season at Netball Central.
After many months of hard work, passion and dedication, hundreds of members of the netball family, last night saw the teams of the 2016 Samsung Premier League take to the floor boards for their first week of pre-season competition.
With photo shoots and court side interviews completed the official proceedings commenced on the Show Court, introducing the eight clubs: Central Coast Heart, Panthers, ERNA Hawks, GWS Fury, Manly Warringah Sapphires, North Shore United, Sutherland Stingrays and UTS St George Sparks.
Netball NSW President, Wendy Archer AM could not have been more impressed by the dedication of the Clubs and their readiness for the inaugural competition.
“The Samsung Premier League has been a real focus for Netball NSW for over three years now, and the new competition sees the culmination of a new High Performance pathway for our talented players,” said Archer during her opening remarks to the 500+ strong crowd at the official ceremony.
“Eight clubs, the sixteen teams, our Umpires, the dedicated bench officials and 192 athletes are set to take the court tonight for pre-season games and in a few weeks, will compete in Round One of the inaugural season of the Samsung Premier League – we are just so pleased.”
“Tonight, the dream of the Premier League becomes a reality and with the support of Samsung, we introduce the Samsung Premier League to netball in New South Wales – a significant competition in the national competition landscape.”
“The competition is a great addition to our calendar and together with our sixteen teams and eight franchises, we look forward to delivering this exciting competition to our members.”
The 2016 Samsung Premier League will commence with round one of competition on Wednesday 20 April, with games to be streamed live* at 7pm and 8.40pm from the Netball Central Show Court.
*Pre-Season testing of the live stream coverage commenced last night, and Netball NSW would like to extend a huge thank you to the players and coaches for their support in preparing for the season ahead. More information regarding access to the streamed footage will be announced prior to the start of the regular season.
